2015 Brubaker Family Reunion

93rd Annual Reunion draws large turnout as countdown begins in anticipation of 300th Anniversary Celebration in 2 Years

20150802_111024aAugust 2nd saw one of the largest body of participants to attend the Brubaker Families of America annual reunion in recent memory.  Close to 100 people were in attendance, with visitors from a variety of locales, including Ontario, Delaware, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wyoming.

Held annually on the land of the original property patented and warranted from William Penn to Hans Brubaker, this year’s reunion was the second consecutive one to be held specifically at the Parish Resource Center on the campus of Homestead Village.

On display were tables with various Brubacher-Brubaker family trees, memorabilia, merchandise, photos, and such; including an online station showing both the Family Association website and Facebook page.

20150802_132349aOur featured speakers this year were Elaine Renkin of Levittown, PA and Martin Brubaker of Hagerstown MD.  Elaine spoke to the gathering about Saving our Heritage of Heirlooms.

Elaine is our Association Historian as well as the owner and proprietor of Auntie Lane’s Cookies.

20150802_133938aMartin Brubaker of Hagerstown MD was our second speaker.  He shared of his recent travels in Europe. Exploring our Brubaker Heritage in Switzerland and the Rhine Valley is his latest edition of several outreaches by North American Brubakers over the last 75 years to our distant cousins in the Old World.  He too is on the Family Association Board of Directors.

Eileen Johns gave an update on the upcoming 300th Anniversary event, including the recent installation of what will be the 300th Anniversary Commemorative stone monument in nearby Noel Dorwart Park, situated on land belonging to the original ‘B’ Family Homestead.

A moment of tribute to remember the recent passing of Nancy Noll Mast and Ken Hoover was also given by Eileen.  Nancy was a long time member of the Association Board of Directors; Ken was the husband of Association Historian Emeritus Joanne Hoover.

Family Association Business was momentarily conducted, including a quick report by Treasurer Roger Brubaker and the introduction by Dr. J. Kenneth Brubaker, Board President, of Sharon Brubaker Hines, the new Chair and Event Coordinator for the  upcoming celebration of 300 Years of Brubakers in America.

Be sure to mark your calendar for August 7, 2016 for our next reunion.  Details will follow soon!
